Lakeland, FL (Law Firm Newswire) August 31, 2012 – A 40-year-old Marianna woman has been accused of stealing several thousand dollars.

At the heart of the case is whether or not she had been given permission to make ATM withdrawals from her co-worker’s account. The accused woman says she was granted permission, but the victim said no such permission was ever given. It sounds like a classic case of “she said, she said,” but the truth of the matter has not yet been revealed.

The victim said the many withdrawals left her without the funds to keep her lights on and buy necessities, such as medication and household supplies. Investigators said the accused withdrew money nine times in amounts as high as $302.95. A witness told investigators the accused was seen going through the victim’s purse when it was unattended.

Though on the surface this case may seem straightforwardly about the guilt of the accused thief, when the case is prosecuted, critically important details may emerge. For example, what if the relationship between the accused and victim turns out to be different than it currently appears?

Could it be possible the victim owed money to the accused, and the 40-year-old woman was trying to recoup her money? Was there ever a loan involved? Do the accused and victim have any romantic history, or have they ever embarked on a business venture together?

“Precisely what happened may not be known entirely at this point,” said Florida criminal defense attorney Thomas Grajek. “All of those accused of a crime are innocent until proven guilty, and it will be very interesting to see if the details known now will be all that is revealed during the course of the case.”
