Houston Immigration Attorney Annie Banerjee Offers An Opinion On Delayed Immigration Debate

Houston, TX (Law Firm Newswire) August 29, 2013 – The President recently said that his hopes for an immigration overhaul would not be met this summer, but will be finalized before the end of this year, though critics believe that may also be an optimistic deadline.

The President, interviewed on television on several Spanish-language TV stations, Telemundo and Univsion, in Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and New York, stated that he was pushing for legislation which included pathway plans for undocumented resident citizenship; he has met with strong resistance from House GOP lawmakers.

There are currently more than 11 million undocumented people in the U.S. who would be placed on a “citizenship” path if his legislation passes. Some observers have speculated that President Obama’s interview with Telemundo is part of an attempt to bolster the enthusiasm of immigration reform supporters who have long been waiting for the bill to overhaul immigration issues in the U.S.

President Obama has stated that there is a great deal of support for the immigration bill, including labor and businesses leaders, as well as evangelical Christians – groups which tend to be comprised mainly of older Caucasian males and groups that have traditionally not backed immigration reform in the past.
