St. Peters, MO, (Law Firm Newswire) November 24, 2015 – A crash involving four trucks took place near Clementine, Missouri, on Sept. 9.

The accident occurred on Interstate 44, shutting down traffic in both directions. It was caused by a flatbed truck rear-ending a slow-moving box truck. The first truck swerved over the median and struck another trailer head-on. Both vehicles eventually caught on fire.

A fourth truck that was trying to pass also overturned, blocking the eastbound lanes. All four semis were destroyed in the crash. Two drivers and one passenger were airlifted to Columbia for medical treatment after sustaining serious injuries.

“Accidents involving semi-trucks, tractor-trailers or other commercial vehicles have a greater potential to cause serious personal injury and wrongful death due to their sheer weight and size,” said Charles James, a prominent attorney in St. Peters, Missouri, whose law firm specializes in personal injury. “Many of these crashes occur due to driver fatigue, in which rear-end collisions are common.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol set up a bypass route while the lanes were closed. However, many vehicles were stuck at a standstill for hours. Authorities from the Missouri Department of Transportation tried to clean up the oil and fuel that had spilled at the scene.

Missouri highways are plagued by truck accidents. Data from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that 99 people were killed and 3,400 were injured in crashes involving commercial vehicles in 2013. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 15.2 percent of all fatal accidents nationwide involved a commercial truck.

“If you have been involved in a trucking accident, you need an experienced personal injury attorney by your side to navigate the many federal regulations that govern the operation of commercial vehicles,” said James. “The large trucking corporations responsible for causing your injuries need to be held accountable for their actions.”
