Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) February 16, 2016 – A gasoline tanker crashed and caught fire on East Loop 820. The trucker lost his life in the crash and burning fuel poured down both sides of the freeway.

This accident involved a solo truck, owned by RaceTrac, and the driver, and happened one recent Saturday at 4:30 a.m. The wreck was in the southbound lane fairly close to Highway 10. It is not clear just exactly what caused the truck to crash, and police have indicated they are investigating the matter in depth.

The explosion was close to the America’s Best Value Inn and prompted local authorities to evacuate all guests. Red Cross volunteers also arrived at the scene. The northbound lane of the highway was closed for a number of hours and did not re-open until 10 a.m. The southbound lane was not opened until 2:50 p.m.

“There may be a number of reasons for this crash,” said Brooks Schuelke, an Austin truck accident attorney, “and they may include texting while driving, driver fatigue, another vehicle running the truck off the road or something went wrong with the truck itself. Those answers won’t be found until an investigation has been completed.”

In situations such as this where the accident involved a single vehicle and driver, there are many unanswered questions. Waiting for answers, the family is left up in the air, grieving for their lost loved one.

“There are instances where a fatal accident was not someone’s fault. However, if a crash was the result of negligence by the driver’s employer or was due to poor maintenance of the truck, the family may wish to speak with a personal injury attorney and pursue a wrongful death claim,” said Schuelke.
