Shipley Do-Nut Accused of Sexual Harassment, Discrimination of Its Employees

Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) May 24, 2018 - If three former employees of Shipley Do-Nuts have their way, the owner of the Houston’s popular Shipley Do-Nuts will be found liable for sexual harassment and employment discrimination, according to a lawsuit the trio recently filed in Harris County District Court in Texas.

According to the complaint filed against Shipley Do-Nut Flour & Supply Co., Shipley Holding Co., Inc. and Shipley, the three plaintiffs are accusing Lawrence Shipley III of regularly subjecting them to “unwelcome touching, other inappropriate physical behavior and unwelcome sexual comments.” They also claim Shipley created a hostile work environment through sexual harassment, national origin discrimination and race discrimination.

The plaintiffs, all of Hispanic descent, are seeking over $1 million in monetary damages as well as remuneration for emotional pain and suffering, attorney fees and more.

Shipley responded to the lawsuit in an email sent to the Houston Chronicle days after the case was filed. In it, he said the plaintiffs were caught “‘red-handed in an elaborate corruption scheme whereby they duped the Shipley companies and more than 20 franchisees out of legitimate delivery and freight services for their own financial gain.’” Shipley also labeled the lawsuit a “baseless, pathetic accusation.”
