Connecticut Filter Manufacturer Exposed Workers to Serious Harm

New Haven, CT (Law Firm Newswire) October 19, 2011 – A recent inspection by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found a Putnam filter manufacturing plant in violation of 29 workplace health and safety standards and a potential of $120,650 in fines. Tank platforms were unguarded and posed a risk of falling. Flammable liquids were not properly stored. And no safety program was in place for workers who entered storage tanks.

Pallflex Co., the filter manufacturer, had inadequate protective equipment for workers and did not perform chemical exposure monitoring. The company also did not maintain OSHA injury and illness records and did not conduct annual safety training. In total, they received 29 serious violations, and OSHA says all these issues lead to a “…substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known.”
