Southfield, MI (Law Firm Newswire) August 9, 2013 – Neighbors to the building being demolished thought it was an accident looking for a place to happen. The building collapsed suddenly.

“The building being demolished in this case appeared to be ready to collapse at any time. Neighbors and area residents were certain it was being handled the wrong way and expected it would collapse. It did. In the resulting rubble, six bodies were recovered and at least 13 others were taken for medical care,” indicated Darren Monroe of Litigation Funding Corporation, Michigan.

Investigators from the Department of Labor (DOL) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rushed to the scene to determine what caused the building to give way and tumble into the street, landing on top of neighboring businesses. The empty building that collapsed was once the home of a sandwich shop and had apartments above it.

Area eyewitnesses indicated they were watching the workers take the building down and said it was not monitored closely. A local roofer predicted the building would collapse, as workers were on the edge, knocking off bricks, making the building unstable. The demolition crew also left a significant portion of a dividing wall standing, without the benefit of braces. This affected the integrity of the building.

Worried inner-city business owners kept calling the city and warning them a collapse was imminent. “Of concern was whether the work was being done by hand or with machinery, as machinery causes vibrations within the walls,” explained Monroe. In tightly packed business areas, buildings are best taken apart by hand to minimize the risk of a collapse.

The families of those who died in this building collapse are likely to speak to personal injury lawyers about filing a wrongful death lawsuit. “Those with injuries may wish to do the same,” said Monroe, “as their funeral, burial and medical expenses will be enormous. Not many people have that kind of money on hand.”
A good solution for those facing large bills, with no way to pay them, is to research litigation funding. A lawsuit cash advance is emergency funding for plaintiffs facing a long wait for trial or settlement. “They may apply for a lawsuit loan in two ways, either online or by calling us,” indicated Monroe.

Litigation funding representatives have extensive experience helping financially strapped victims understand what a lawsuit cash advance is and how it works to their advantage. They do not need to have a credit check, or have a job at the time they apply. The funds may be used for anything that is necessary, but most applicants use pre-settlement funding to pay urgent bills and remain current with their usual financial obligations. “Many applicants also appreciate the fact they may keep the lawsuit loan if their case is not successful in court,” added Monroe.
