Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) February 13, 2014 – A drunk driver caused the death of one man on a Louisiana highway.

“We see crashes in Texas such as this one far too often,” indicates Bobby Lee, an Austin car accident attorney with Lee, Gober & Reyna. “It never gets any easier for anyone to see a vehicle severed in two as a result of an accident involving a drunk driver and knowing with a fair amount of certainty, that someone did not make it out of that wreck alive.”

This crash happened in Louisiana when a 35-year-old man, behind the wheel of a Chevy pickup truck, wandered into the southbound lane of Highway 25, slamming head-on into another pickup truck. The 32-year-old driver of the other vehicle died instantly on impact when his truck was severed in two.

First responders and police were on the scene within minutes of the 6:00 a.m. crash, followed shortly by state troopers. According to what eyewitnesses said and the preliminary results of the police investigation, the 35-year-old man would face charges of vehicular negligent injuring, vehicular homicide, DWI and driving left of center. The drunk driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and when the man was released from medical care, he was arrested.

Despite the fact that the dead driver was wearing a seat belt, was in his own lane and was traveling the posted speed limit, he did not make it home. He rounded a curve to be greeted by an out-of-control truck that broke his vehicle in two pieces. “It was one of those accidents that no one could have anticipated, death coming out of nowhere,” says Lee. “I have seen a number of wrecks like this over the years that I have been practising injury law. It never ceases to bother me that people take their own lives and the lives of others into their hands by choosing to drive while impaired.”

Survivors of an accident involving an impaired driver need experienced legal counsel in order to obtain compensation for their injuries. They also need help negotiating the pitfalls presented to them by insurance companies wanting them to accept a quick settlement for far less than what they would be entitled to if they take their case to court. “Do not let an insurance company harass you into signing anything after you have been involved in an accident. Speak to my office. We’ve got your back,” adds Lee.
