Rockville Centre, NY (Law Firm Newswire) August 18, 2014 – The Rottenstein Law Group, a national personal injury law firm that represents persons who believe they were injured by anticoagulants such as Pradaxa and Xarelto (www.xareltoinjuryfirm.com), has learned that Pradaxa manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim has suffered a 5% drop in sales in the first half of 2014.

According to FiercePharma, “The Germany-based company forecasts revenues will be down for the year as well, but it says by getting its house in order, its finances can improve after that. It has settled some nagging litigation and sold some assets, and it’s about ready to launch some newly approved drugs.”* In May, according to the article, the company said it had agreed to pay $650 million to settle approximately 4,000 lawsuits by plaintiffs claiming that Pradaxa, an anticoagulant, had caused serious, sometimes fatal, bleeding in some patients.

“While we don’t want to see anyone’s business suffer,” said Rochelle Rottenstein, principal of the Rottenstein Law Group, “a company must take responsibility for its products. If it is true that Pradaxa is dangerous, then it behooves the manufacturer to make victims whole.”

In 2013, the U.S. FDA received several hundred adverse event reports submitted by individuals who claimed to have a serious adverse side effect while taking Pradaxa’s sister drug Xarelto (rivaroxaban), as compared to a lower number for Pradaxa (dabigatran) itself.** Data show that the number of persons being prescribed these blood thinning drugs is estimated at about 4 million for the year, with Xarelto prescriptions outnumbering Pradaxa prescriptions by two-to-one.** Anticoagulants (or “blood thinners”) are considered high-risk prescription drugs because they can cause excessive internal bleeding and other injuries in some patients.

Anyone needing more information about the dangers of Xarelto should visit the firm’s Xarelto site (www.xareltoinjuryfirm.com), where everything is explained in clear, concise language. Representatives of the firm are available to answer any questions, and there is a confidential, no-cost claim evaluation form that can be filled out in order to determine if there are grounds to file a Xarelto lawsuit.
