Tampa, FL (Law Firm Newswire) January 29, 2015 – The daughter of a man killed at a ropes course attraction at a mall in Orlando, Florida has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on her late father’s behalf.

Robert Belvoir died Christmas Eve at the SkyTrail attraction in Artegon Marketplace. His harness became disconnected from the course’s rails, and he fell about 30 feet to the concrete floor. Belvoir’s daughter, Penelope, had finished the course and watched as her father fell to his death. She filed the wrongful death lawsuit against the manufacturer, Ropes Courses Inc., and other defendants.

“In tragic circumstances like these, a wrongful death lawsuit is appropriate to provide the family with some compensation for their loss,” said Robert Joyce, a Tampa wrongful death attorney with Joyce & Reyes. Joyce is not involved in the case.

The accident occurred on the Sky Rail, part of the course that is similar to a zipline. The ropes course portion reopened less than a week after the accident, but the Sky Rail portion remained closed. Jim Liggett, the owner of Ropes Courses Inc. said that it will probably remain closed permanently.

The Orlando Police Department and the Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, have launched an ongoing investigation.

Ropes Courses Inc. has manufactured approximately 600 ropes courses globally. Around 10 of those including Sky Rails, which use rails made of steel or aluminum instead of cables. Liggett said that all of the Sky Rails were closed after the accident and have not yet been reopened. He said that each ride would be inspected to make sure another accident could not happen.

The wrongful death lawsuit also named Sky Trail LLC, which operates the attraction at Artegon Marketplace, as a defendant.
