U.S. Vaginal Mesh Stories Resound in Italy

Although Professor Salvatore recognizes the usefulness of slings, he insists there is no ideal material yet and that there is no certification for surgeons performing the implantation surgery. How is this relevant to surgical mesh implant surgery in the U.S.? U.S. surgeons are not certified to perform such surgeries. Additionally, in using the current polypropylene material, mesh recipients experience pain on intercourse, spontaneous pain, exposure, infections, erosion, mesh shrinkage and painful intimacy for sexual partners.

“Aside from the significant downside to the current harmful vaginal mesh implants, it appears there are new developments on the horizon that point to the use of safer alternatives to address pelvic organ prolapse.
