San Diego, CA (Law Firm Newswire) October 24, 2019 – Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD) presented Outstanding Trial Lawyer Awards to five Gomez Trial Attorneys at its annual awards dinner “An Evening with Trial Stars” on Friday, October 18 at The US GRANT Hotel. Founder John Gomez, partners Bibianne Fell, Jeremiah Lowe, Jessica Sizemore-Wetzel, and trial attorney Victoria Lazar were recognized for their outstanding trial verdicts over the past year.

Fell was honored for the $105,356,000 million verdict in Kali v. Young. Young fraudulently and negligently represented his non-medical treatments as a cure for cancer. The San Diego Superior Court jury found that Young’s negligence and fraud caused Kali’s cancer to progress to stage four. Fell was one of three finalists for CASD’s 2018 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award. The case of Kali v. Young was placed as the #25 top verdict in the nation in 2018, named by Top Verdict.

Gomez and Sizemore-Wetzel were recognized for their $6,479,000 million federal court jury award in DeRuyver v. Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. An Omni La Costa restaurant server placed a pot of hot coffee within the reach of 9-month-old Hadley DeRuyver, who pulled the hot coffee on top of her, causing third degree burns. Omni La Costa made no settlement offer prior to the trial. Gomez has received an Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award 10 times and CASD’s Trial Lawyer of the Year Award twice. Sizemore-Wetzel has received the Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award for three consecutive years.

Lowe and Lazar was honored for a $2.7 million jury verdict in Mandujano v. Johnston. Mandujano sustained spinal injuries as a passenger in a rear-end collision on the I-5 freeway. He underwent a lumbar fusion surgery, causing him to miss four months of work. The defense refused to pay a policy-limits settlement demand of $500,000.

Lowe will also be recognized for a $1.7 million dollar jury verdict in Gleboff v. City of San Diego. Gleboff was exiting an illegally parked vehicle that was struck from behind by a City vehicle. The City admitted negligence but disputed comparative fault, causation, and damages. Lowe also received an Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award in 2017.
