In 1982, 25-year old Deirdre O’Brien was kidnapped and murdered. The killer was sentenced to two 30-year jail terms. In 1994 the O’Brien family was approached about opening a Child Advocacy Center in Morris County. Deirdre’s dad, a member of the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders and president of the Statewide Coalition of Crime Victims, helped find a suitable location in Morristown, at 8 Court Street.

Since Deirdre’s House opened in 1996, it has served as a safe haven for over 32,000 child victims of abuse and/or neglect and children who have witnessed violence. Deirdre’s House is the only location in Morris County where a child victim can be interviewed and digitally recorded by the police, medically examined and treated by pediatric abuse specialists, and clinically counseled in Spanish or English.

Deirdre’s House offers support to abused children in the form of hope, healing and justice.

Deirdre’s House welcomes volunteers. The form to apply can be found here.

In an episode from Sunday, January 19, 2020, Billy and Phylisse Cook discussed Billy’s Baseballs and all the organization does to support the troops.
