Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) January 27, 2020 – Nationally, car accidents remain at the top of the list for leading causes of death. Whether it due to driver error, environmental factors or driving under the influence, automobile crashes are incredibly common across the United States. Texas stands at No.1 place in the number of fatal car crashes and the number of deaths. This situation is not projected to get better.

In an effort to bring down the rate of fatal car accidents across Texas the Department of Transportation (TxDot) launched the #EndTheStreakTX campaign. Since the initiation of the campaign, fatal crashes have not stopped. Since 2000, close to 67,000 people have died. In 2018 alone, 3,647 people died on Texas highways and byways.

Some of the leading factors that contribute to fatal car accidents are driving under the influence, distracted driving and speeding. Other factors like road conditions and weather also play a factor in fatal automobile crashes. The leading causes of death on the roads in Texas are speeding, failing to stay in one lane, driver distraction or inattention, and DWI by alcohol or drugs.

The #EndTheStreakTX campaign is an effort to encourage Texans to drive safely.
“We all have the power to end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roadways,” Texas Transportation Commissioner Laura Ryan said. “And while we are committed to invest in the best engineering practices to make our roads safe, we also need drivers and passengers to act more responsibly and help us end the streak of daily deaths on our roads to reach our goal of zero deaths by 2050.”

“Safe driving can decrease the number of car crashes,” said Austin personal injury attorney, Brooks Schuelke. “Remember to pay attention to the road, use seatbelts, follow the speed limit and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
