Northville, MI (Law Firm Newswire) August 13, 2020 – Twelve Michigan counties have secured and distributed emergency aid through the state’s new County Veteran Service Fund Emergency Relief (CVSF-ER) program. Nearly $1.1 million has been paid to Michigan veterans to date with more counties waiting for approval for funds.

This emergency funding was created in response to both the COVID-19 pandemic and the flooding that affected central Michigan in May. The money may be used by veterans for home and car repairs, medical expenses and other urgent costs.

“Michigan is home to more than 550,000 veterans and their families,” said James G. Fausone, lead attorney at Legal Help for Veterans in Northville. “Services for veterans, such as these emergency programs, are important to not only help during extraordinary times like these but also throughout the entire year too.”

A projected $1.3 million will be dispersed in CVSF-ER grants. In addition, at least 16 counties will also participate in a CVSF-ER grocery voucher program for veterans through the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) and Meijer.

Counties that have secured CVSF-ER funding thus far are Calhoun, Gladwin, Gogebic, Iosco, Kent, Marquette, Midland, Missaukee, Muskegon, Oakland, Wayne and Wexford. Counties working to secure CVSF-ER funding are Cheboygan, Eaton, Genesee, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Mecosta and Roscommon. Furthermore, the counties participating or planning to participate in the MVAA/Meijer grocery voucher program thus far are Calhoun, Cheboygan, Eaton, Genesee, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Kent, Marquette, Mecosta, Midland, Missaukee, Muskegon, Oakland, Wayne and Wexford.
