Todd J. Leonard, Esq.

Denville, NJ (Law Firm Newswire) September 29, 2020 – Marty Lyons was an NFL player for the New York Jets where he served for 12-years as a defensive lineman. Early in his career, he became a Big Brother to a three-year-old boy, Keith, who suffered from an advanced illness.

Three years later, Marty experienced a six day period filled with the birth of his first child, followed four days later by the sudden passing of his father, followed two days later by Keith’s death. These experiences profoundly affected Marty’s attitude toward life, fame and his fellow human beings.

With the encouragement and the assistance of his family and friends, Marty was determined to establish a foundation dedicated to granting the wishes of seriously-ill children. In 1982 he created the Marty Lyons Foundation, which has granted almost 8,000 wishes to very sick kids. His Foundation has raised over $35 million dollars since its inception.

The Marty Lyons Foundation is unique in that they grant a second wish to a deserving child. Incorporated in 1982 as a not-for-profit organization, the Foundation has 10 chapters that grant wishes in 13 states — Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
