New York, NY(Law Firm Newswire) October 5, 2020 – A Long Island woman was indicted on aggravated driving while intoxicated (DWI) and a dozen other charges in a high-speed car accident that killed a mother and injured her son. The rear-end crash occurred on Meadowbrook Parkway in North Merrick, Nassau County.

Freeport resident Nicole Pollock, 26, was allegedly speeding and driving drunk when her 2012 Nissan Rogue hit the back of a 2006 Kia. Authorities identified the Kia driver as 39-year-old Lissette Quintanilla. She lost control of her vehicle upon impact and crossed multiple lanes of traffic before striking a tree. Quintanilla died in the DWI crash while her 8-year-old son suffered a fractured arm and other non-life-threatening injuries.

“Every driver should be cautious behind the wheel of a car to avoid tragic accidents,” commented Peter Brill, a Long Island criminal defense attorney with Brill Legal Group, who is not involved with the case. “Aggravated DWI is an especially serious charge as it means that the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their system. If a driver kills another person while driving under the influence of alcohol, they will be charged with additional offenses, including vehicular manslaughter and vehicular homicide, as in this case.”

Pollock was arraigned on a 13-count grand jury indictment. She was charged with aggravated DWI, vehicular assault, vehicular manslaughter, vehicular homicide and reckless driving, among other felony offenses. Pollock could face up to 25 years in prison if she is convicted of the top charge.

Pollock’s car stopped north of the collision site. A Nassau County police officer prevented her from leaving the scene of the accident when she allegedly attempted to walk away. Pollock was hospitalized following the crash.

“Anyone who is facing aggravated DWI charges requires a strong legal defense, especially if the case involves other serious offenses,” said Brill. “A conviction can carry stiff penalties, including a lengthy prison sentence.”
