Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire)June 10, 2021 – In a recent car accident, a 23-year-old university student was killed in a head-on crash on US-80, a short distance from Hallsville in Harrison County.

The accident involved three vehicles and happened at 5:15 p.m. Initial reports indicate that Jared Davis, of Marshall, was driving a 2008 Mercedes CLK 350 that rear-ended the student’s 2016 Kia Optima.

The impact caused the Kia, turning into a private drive, to end up in the westbound lane where a 2002 Ford Escape hit it head-on. The Kia’s young driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Two other drivers went to area hospitals for medical care.

“Rear-end accidents are devastating,” said Austin car accident attorney Brooks Schuelke, who is not involved in this case. “Typically, the person who rear-ended another is not paying attention to their driving and their reaction time is slower.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that 90 percent of rear-end collisions are caused by distracted driving.

Distracted driving can involve texting while driving, adjusting the radio or another e-device in the vehicle, reaching over the backseat to pick up something, trying to pick something up off the floor, eating, grooming and driving while fatigued.

Being involved in a car accident is a distressing event leaving survivors with injuries and traumatic memories. Who is going to pay the medical bills? When can they go back to work? How is the insurance company going to deal with the crash?

“These are questions an experienced car accident attorney can answer for you. At Schuelke Law, we cover all the bases to let you know what your options are, how a case may proceed, and what the likely outcome could be, and we deal with the insurance companies on your behalf so that you can focus on healing,” Schuelke added. “A no-cost consultation is available by calling our office.”

Should an accident result in a wrongful death claim, the victim’s family may pursue compensation for damages, including loss of income and funeral and burial costs.
