Keyword Research Goes A Long Way in the News

Before writing a press release or specifically, a news title, a trip to Adwords’ keyword selector may help the performance of your news and increase distribution.

Now, start plugging in some words that are related to your news release and practice area. If an immigration lawyer is going to be speaking to employers at a convention, they should type in “work visas” or other related terms. In this case, they will see that nationwide, Google gets over 200,000 searches for “work visas”.

Instead of writing a title like this:

Jane Smith of Smith & Smith to Speak at International Hiring Convention

The firm should integrate the popular keyword into the title like this:

Work Visas to be Discussed by Immigration Lawyer Jane Smith at International Hiring Convention

The difference in syndication between a traditional title like the first example or a keyword focused title like the second example could be threefold. How many people are searching for the convention name? Probably a handful if it is popular, but it will pale in comparison to keywords like “work visas” and “immigration”.

Since your news release will go in Google News, a lot of your traffic will come from search engine users looking for information on your practice area.
